Chatuchak shop Of Thailand

Bangkok's Chatuchak market is a must-see. There is nothing like experiencing a market place spread over 35 acres of land with over 15,000 stall selling everything from Buddha statues to exotic pets and T-shirts.

Chatuchak market is settled right next to Chatuchak Park, which is at the northern end of Bangkok. The market is only open at the weekends and you should make sure you get there early, nearby 9.30 a.m. Or 10 a.m. At the latest. You will find out that by noon the market is buzzing with citizen and you will get jostled quite a bit by the crowd. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on your wallet or purse otherwise you could end up losing it to the pickpockets in the marketplace.

Thailand Hotel

An easy way to get to Chatuchak market is taking the Skytrain and you have to get off on the last stop on the Sukkhumvit line which is going north. The stop is Mo Chit and you will clearly see the numerous stall as the Skytrain pulls into the station. From the Skytrain station, the market is a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, you can take the subway and get off at Kampangphet. The entrance of this Mrt subway hub is right in the middle of the market.

Make sure you carry a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. As you can get any and everything in Chatuchak Market, buy your gifts there as you will be able to pick up things for half the price of a conventional "touristy" shop. Railay Beach, Thailand

Railay Beach, Thailand

Railay Beach, Thailand, also known as Rai Leh, is a popular beach resort on the Andaman Coast in Krabi, Thailand. One of its prime attractions other than its gorgeous beach is the proximity of towering limestone cliffs.

Railay Beach, Thailand excites tourists with its unique access. Being a peninsula, cutoff from the mainland by oceans and mountains, it can be reached only by a longtail boat ride. Quarterly services are ready from Ao Nang, Krabi, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket.

Thailand Hotel

Tourists prefer Railay for two reasons - its tranquility and unbelievable rock climbing opportunities. While its secluded nature attracts families and honeymooners, the limestone formations lure the backpacking crowd. Railay has room options to cater to these two groups.

Rayavadee Premier Resort on Phra Nang beach is the best room Railay has to offer. Being the lone resort on the beach, it offers faultless privacy for its guests. In the mid-range, Railay has a amount of room choices, most of them located on its west side. Railay's allocation accommodations, though not many, are found along its eastern side. The neighboring Ton Sai beach, located barely 10 minutes away, has more choices in this segment.

Railay beach has a variety of restaurants and bars to cater to the needs of the tourists. Most of them serve the local cuisine that is both tasty and affordable. The west-end of Railay has a few hi-end restaurants, some of them located on the beach.

Rock climbing is one of Railay's main reasons for popularity in the world traveler map. However, the steep limestone cliffs are not suitable for beginners. Avid rock climbers flock to Railay to enjoy the thrill and breath-taking sea views from the cliff tops.

Railay Beach Thailand also has limited possibilities for divers and snorkeling enthusiasts, as nautical life and coral reefs are not as intriguing or diverse as in other Thailand beaches. The sea caves along Phra Nang beach offer ample opportunities for kayaking enthusiasts.

Five of the Most Haunted Hotels in Devon

Ever fancied a spooky weekend looking for ghosts in a real haunted hotel?  These hotels in Devon have all had supernatural sightings reported.

1) Chambercombe Manor, Ilfracombe

Hotel Koh Samui

One of Britain's most famous haunted houses, Chambercombe Manor was featured in the Living TV series 'Most Haunted'.  It has long been reported to be haunted by the ghost of Lady Jane Grey.

Five of the Most Haunted Hotels in Devon

Spookier still, in 1865, a tenant noticed a window outline that did not correspond to a room inside the building.  When they investigated they found a small sealed room containing a bedstead with a skeleton in it.  The skeleton is believed to have been a titled lady visiting relatives at Chambercombe who was shipwrecked in a storm on the rocks at Hele. When she later died in the room, the occupants of the Manor took her jewellery and sealed her in.   A section of the partition has now been removed so that visitors can see into the chamber.

Hotel Koh Samui

Chambercombe Manor hosts guided tours, paranormal events, overnight paranormal nights and murder mysteries.  Holiday accommodation is available in luxury cottages.

2) The Devil's Stone Inn, Shebbear

The Devil's Stone Inn has a certificate in the bar to prove it has been officially inspected and recognised as one of the eight most haunted pubs in the UK.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are said to be haunted by the ghost of a little girl aged around seven years old.  Sometimes seen with a gray bearded man thought to be her father, she is said to be a friendly ghost, and has 'appeared' on request in the bar, by moving coats and closing doors.  She is also blamed for pictures falling off the walls.

The pub itself is a former farmhouse which was converted into a coaching inn in the 17th century.  It is named after the Devil's Stone, a large glacial rock on the village green, which is said to imprison the Devil underneath it.  Following local tradition, the village bellringers turn the stone over every year at 8pm on Guy Fawkes Night (5th November) to protect the village from disaster.  Once the stone has been turned, the celebrations begin in the Devil's Stone Inn.

Local legend claims there is also a hidden tunnel connecting the Devil's Stone Inn to the church.

3) The Royal Castle Hotel, Dartmouth Quay

The Royal Castle Hotel has played host to Queen Victoria, Edward VII, Sir Francis Drake and Cary Grant, as well as providing a home for several of King Charles II's mistresses.

At 2 am on autumn mornings, a ghostly coach and horses can be heard arriving, taking on a passenger and driving away.  This phantom coach is said to date from the time of King William and Queen Mary's arrival from the Netherlands in 1688.  The Queen arrived first and stayed at the Royal Castle Hotel, which was then two pairs of houses with a narrow courtyard in between.  The King was forced by a storm to land in Torbay instead of Dartmouth, and a coach was sent to fetch Queen Mary, arriving at the Royal Castle Hotel shortly before 2 am.

Ever since then, staff and guests at the hotel in the autumn have reported hearing horses' hooves crossing cobblestones, a carriage door opening and closing, followed by the crack of a whip, the chimes of a long-gone clock, and the horses whinnying as they speed the coach away.

4)  The Lord Haldon Hotel, Dunchideock, near Exeter

A large country hotel which has hosted many aristocratic guests, the Lord Haldon Hotel has had many reports of ghosts.

The most tragic story is that of an eighteenth century servant girl who appears to be distressed and dripping with water.  Locals believe she became pregnant by a man of higher social standing, and was murdered in the lake to avoid a scandal.

A more mysterious ghost, seen several times, is a large man with rolled up sleeves.  He  appears by the frosted windows in the back of the old lounge, next to what used to be the stables, and when his outline is seen through the windows, his height matches the previous floor level.

Another unexplained ghost is a young girl who knocks on guests' doors and calls out their first names in the early hours, between 1 and 3 in the morning.  Guests and staff have also heard sounds of footsteps when nobody is there.

5) The Royal Clarence Hotel, Exeter Cathedral Yard

Built on the site of the explorer Sir Walter Raleigh's fathers' house, the Royal Clarence Hotel is the beginning and end point of Exeter's Red Coat guided Ghosts and Legends Tours.  It is claimed to be home to three friendly ghosts, one of which may be Sir Walter Raleigh himself.  Famous visitors to the Royal Clarence Hotel have included Lord Nelson, Nicholas I, Czar of Russia, the author Thomas Hardy, and Hollywood actors Clark Gable and Gary Cooper.

Queen Victoria's father, the Duke of Kent, travelled to Exeter to receive the freedom of the city, but died while staying in Sidmouth on 23rd January 1820.  His body was transported to the Royal Clarence and embalmed there before transportation to his funeral in Windsor.

Haunting manifestations include coughing sounds on the top floor, which some have claimed to be the ghost of Sir Walter Raleigh.  A gray lady ghost has also been seen looking out of a window.

Another part of the Royal Clarence Hotel is the Well House Tavern, which has a crypt in the basement with a skeleton, believed to have been a victim of the plague.

While visiting Exeter Cathedral Green, you might also keep an eye out for a monk, a nun, a three headed man and a tall glowing figure, who are all reported to haunt that area:  it's not surprising people say that Exeter is one of the most haunted cities in Britain!

Lacquerware Of Thailand

The art of production lacquer originally came to Thailand from China. However, over the centuries, the designs and techniques in production lacquerware have come to be distinctively Thai, and lacquerware handicrafts is booming industry in Thailand. Lacquerware is made in Chiang Mai, the northern province of Thailand.

The art of lacquerware takes a lot of patience and time. It begins with fine woven bamboo basketry or wood that has been carved or shaped on a lathe. First a basic coating material known as Samuk is applied to basketry or wood. Samuk is nothing but ashes of burnt rice paddy husks or ground clay mixed with black lacquer. Black lacquer is obtained from a tree which grows only in the northern hills of Thailand. When the coating dries, it is polished with soap stone and another coating is applied. This process is repeated several times till the lacquer becomes durable on the basketry or wood. Finally, the object is polished with a sandpaper-like leaf called the bai-nod.

Thailand Hotel

After this, the object is coated several times with just black lacquer. The coating of black lacquer is then polished with water and powdered fired clay. It is this last polish which gives the lacquerware of Thailand its unique glistening sheen.

Lacquerware Of Thailand

Designs are then made on the object using two unavoidable methods. One is lai kud while the other is called lai rot nam. If the object is to be in color, the lai kud recipe is used. Lai rot nam recipe is only used for gold designs. Once the designs are done, they stand out beautifully against the black slick background.

Finding Solace in a Koh Samui Beach Resort

It is not a secret that resorts in Koh Samui are often crowded. Throngs of tourists desiring for a wonderful Thai vacation are flocking in to the magnificent shores of the island to enjoy and ease away all the stress. But to some, relaxation equates isolation from the noise and busy mobs of people. This is actually possible. Because in Koh Samui, there are hidden paradises - resorts which offer the same beauty as Chaweng and Lamai, but exude quieter charms.

People looking for solitary serenity should travel to Laem Yai. A secluded island at the northernmost part of the island, this resort in Koh Samui is definitely an ideal escape.

Hotel Koh Samui

Laem Yai is painstakingly beautiful for its beaches. The dramatic pearlescent sky blue water perfectly complements the powdery white sand that lies serenely on the coast. When the sun stats hiding behind the endless horizon, the sky turns gold and the splendour is reflected on the ocean as it glimmers to the night. The calm wind then peacefully breathes as the day comes to its end. The night begins when the ocean waves hum a lullaby lulling the tired souls to a sound comfort in preparation for another tomorrow.

Finding Solace in a Koh Samui Beach Resort

The quiet atmosphere in Laem Yai adds to the romance it exudes. It is particularly perfect for honeymooners to spend time with each other in solitude.

Hotel Koh Samui

Though secluded from the urban, a few commercial establishments may be found in Laem Yai. To cater the needs of vacationers, restaurants are established in the area. There are Laem Yai hotels, as well, which assure impressive accommodations.

The Bang Rak Village in the northern coast of Koh Samui is another sure paradise for those who wants to get away from everything.

A primary destination is the usually quiet and non-teeming beach. It is an ideal alternative to the nearby Chaweng Beach which is often jampacked with people. With its pleasingly calm bay, people will certainly find solitude in this area.

The village of Bang Rak also assures great nightlife. Though most are girly bars, some are English-style pubs and sports bar. Restaurants are also abundant.

Shopping is also a good activity in Bang Rak. At the easternmost end of the area is a shopping complex which stores sell really cheap items. Tourists will surely find the place an ideal spot to buy souvenirs and stuffs to remind them of their pleasant trip to the place. Nearby is the Bang Rak fish and fruit market.

There are indeed a lot of attractions in Bang Rak but the most famous is the majestic What Phra Yai. Famous for the Big Buddha, it can be seen from afar, even from the plane window.

In Bang Rak, there are no 5-star hotels but a great lodging place will never be compromised as there are different boutique hotels around.

Language and transportation in Thailand

Language and transportation in Thailand

Thailand boasts a modern communications infrastructure. The postal service is efficient, as is the telephone network, and the country is one of the leading use,rs in Asia of cell phones and the Internet. Many businesses, government departments, media organizations, and scholastic institutions have well-organized Web sites in both Thai and English. Internet cafes are becoming common, and most hotels and businesses have fax facilities.

Media

Thailand Hotel

Thailand has two English-language daily newspapers, the Bangkok Post and The Nation, and a few provincial towns now boast English- language weeklies. There are several Tv channels, both state and private, broadcasting in Thai, but you can get an English soundtrack to some programs by tuning in to confident radio stations. English-language Tv programs are also beamed in by satellite and most hotels have facilities for receiving them. The Bbc World Service, Voice of America, and Australian Broadcasting Corporation broadcasts can be heard on shortwave radios. By Asian standards the Thai press is relatively free to express its own opinions and recent government attempts to muzzle it have been unsuccessful. Broadcasting tends to toe the government line; Tv stations are whether owned by the government or the current Prime Minister's family! However, a good communications infrastructure is no guarantee of trouble-free communication. This episode offers guidance on how to interact successfully with Thais.

English in Thailand

A few decades ago, although English was taught in schools, most Thais had few opportunities to practice their oral skills unless they went to study abroad. They learned to write it and read it, but not to speak it. In the 1960s English received a boost with the advent of large numbers of Westerners, notably the American military, which had bases in Thailand and used Thailand as an R & R (rest and recreation) town for soldiers fighting in Vietnam. English received a further boost as Thailand became a beloved traveler destination and a regional town for manufactures and international organizations. Other requisite factor is the growing number of foreign residents. Nowadays in Bangkok and the major traveler spots English is widely spoken, along with other foreign languages, to a lesser extent. However, some of the English you come over is fairly rudimentary and not all the time comprehensible. In the more rural areas- upcountry," as Thais refer to it-English ceases to be a lingua franca. It is not a second language in the same way as it is in Malaysia, India, and Singapore, or as French used to be in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

Key West Express

Our trip in July started from Madeira Beach, St Petersburg on a Sunday. We started off about 8am and travelled south via the sunshine bridge to Fort Myers. We located the departure point for the jet boat very easily (by luck more than good map reading). At the reception we enquired about accommodation, they gave us a brochure for a motel right on Fort Myers Beach with a 10% discount for boat travelers. The location was perfect, the room was clean, neat and the staff were great. We spent a delightful afternoon and evening on the beach where there are plenty of restaurants and bars. We arrived at the wharf bright and early next morning. All the staff were helpful and friendly. The journey to Key West was perfect; the sea conditions were flat calm and beautiful sunshine. In three and a half hours we arrived at Key West. We found a neat little hotel which was advertised at the quay (they will take your cases to the hotel).

We spent three days at Key West exploring the sights, you don't need a car at Key West as local transport is very good, you can also walk to all the locations of interest. We had a great time. It's very different from the rest of Florida and well worth a visit, with all the chickens running around and the unique galleries and bars (some bars are not suitable for children). For children the conch tour train is great, stopping at all places of interest, you can leave the train at any point and catch the next train. We took the old town trolley and our guide was Welsh and had lived about six miles from our home!

Hotel Koh Samui

To travel by car to Key West from Fort Myers can take about 8 hours! The Key West Express has an average journey time of three and a half hours from either Fort Myers or Marco Island (in season). There is another start point at Miami. Travelers can lounge around on the sun deck spotting dolphins, sea turtles and flying fish, or relax in the heated/air-conditioned lounge cabins. Cocktails are available from the full bar, food can be bought from the galley and there is even a souvenir shop! The high speed fleet is jet powered with computer controlled stabilizers, extra long hulls, wave piercing technology and broad beams to ensure a comfortable and smooth ride. This has to beat a car journey?

4 Most Beautiful Thailand Beaches

Thailand has one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. For those that have traveled there they know that the beauty of this untouched place makes for some of the best vacations in the world. This is coupled with the vast amount of historical culture that abounds the countryside and there is never a shortage of things to do in this country. Because much of this land is untouched by development you will find that relaxation and peaceful living is more than possible. The reaches of the mighty have not gotten this far and that means that you will get the very best in the vacation arena, especially when it comes to the Thailand beach areas.

Khao Lak is a wonderful Thailand beach. Just a short drive from the airport, this paradise offers a remote vacation area like no other. Thanks to the area being largely uninhabited, there is lush rain forest nearby along with a whole host of wildlife to be viewed. The water remains warm in the November through December months and the fishing and scuba diving is out of this world.

Hotel Koh Samui

Phuket Thailand Beach is another great spot. Enjoy this resort November through March. There is more than enough to do. It is a bit more crowded than other beaches as this area thrives on the tourism dollars that it brings in. The scuba diving is top notch in this area and you will also find some of the warmest most clear water in the world. There are several nearby attractions to keep one busy for quite a few days.

4 Most Beautiful Thailand Beaches

Phi Phi Don Thailand beach is quite the turn around. Once a remote and nearly unknown place, this Thailand beach came to life when Hollywood came in and filmed a movie here. It is now considered to be one of the most popular beaches in the entire country and is frequented by many big names. This is a site that you will not want to miss, as the views are breathtaking and the water warm and inviting.

Hotel Koh Samui

West Railiy Thailand beach is one of the undiscovered diamonds in the rough. There is very little that is expensive here and one can stay at the "resort" for over a week and barely tap the budget. The sands are milky white and the water clear. Scuba diving is very popular here as well as the fishing. This location is only accessible by long tail boat so plan for a bit of a long ride.

2 Best Masai Mara Kenya Lodge - Kenya Top 5 Star Masai Mara Lodge

1. Olkurruk Mara Masai Mara Kenya lodge

The new Olkurruk Mara Masai Mara Kenya lodge has a spectacular site high on a rocky cliff at the top of the Oloololo escarpment. There are panoramic views over the plains and the meandering Mara River far below. This location was used in the Denys Finch Hatton funeral scene in the film Out of Africa.

Hotel Koh Samui

There are 19 thatched guest rondavel designed to create the feel of an African village. Olkurruk means pied crow in Masai, and the theme is carried through in the handmade bedspreads and rugs as well as in eye-catching leather wall hangings which depict local myths about the pied crow.

2 Best Masai Mara Kenya Lodge - Kenya Top 5 Star Masai Mara Lodge

The public rooms have been simply and attractively decorated using natural local materials. There is an indoor/outdoor dining area, a cozy circular lounge with an open fire in the center, and the Out of Africa bar which has the best view of those vast distances. Beyond this bar juts a large rocky overhanging where you can pick out herds of elephant, or see a distant clutch of combies (mini-vans) perhaps crowded around a kill. In the early morning you might watch a colourful hot air balloon drifting below you.

Hotel Koh Samui

Unfortunately, there are many places in the Masai Mara Kenya lodge where that marvelous view is obscured by vegetation. Several rondavel which would otherwise have magnificent outlooks, face bushes instead. It is however frequently windy at the edge of this escarpment and the vegetation acts as a windbreak. At this height it can be cold at night. In the rainy seasons, it is often misty with poor visibility.

The rooms are cozy and snug. They are more appealing in the evening than in the heat of the day when they seem a little dark and enclosed. There are pale reed walls, hand woven rugs on the painted floor and an unusual fabric ceiling which is gathered tent like up to the peak of the rondavel. Bathroom walls are made of rough dark timber, and there are showers with plentiful solar-heated water. Décor in the rooms is imaginative and appropriate.

It is a long haul down into the reserve, and half or even full -day game drives are more popular that the traditional shorter game drives, offered by most Masai Mara Kenya lodges in the reserve. Olkurruk operates several land cruisers for game drives, and an airstrip has recently been constructed nearby. There is 24 hour electricity and an electric security fence.

2. Mara Serena Safari Masai Mara Kenya lodge

This popular Masai Mara Kenya lodge is set high on a ridge within the reserve. It commands magnificent uninterrupted views down across the Mara plains and over two water holes. The Mara Serena's unique architecture and décor suggest a fantasy with the Masai Manyatta-rounded spaces, earth tones, natural furnishings, and tribal touches.

A swimming pool has been positioned to take advantage of the wonderful view. Well-tended luxurious flower beds line the paths to the rooms which extend in a row from the main Masai Mara Kenya lodge. There are almost 80 rooms-small, enclosed, and rather claustrophobic. They all face views but have small windows and no balcony. The rooms are brightly coloured in yellow and orange with full bathrooms ensuite. Mineral water is provided in the bedrooms each night.

The public rooms are harmoniously decorated with lights in hanging pots, spears in window treatments and tribal motifs on walls. There are some thoughtful touches such as refrigerated platters keeping the buffet fresh, complimentary champagne at breakfast, internal windows framing tropical plants, and an outdoor bird feeder near a stone seating area. The Masai Mara Kenya lodge offers a variety of special activities such as breakfast at the hippo pool, wildlife films, Masai dancing, balloon safaris and bird walks.

Special facilities

Extra facilities at Mara Serena include: Gas station, airstrip, 4 wheel drive game vehicles, 24 hour electricity generators, nurse, souvenir shop.

Where To Stay On Koh Samui During Your Holiday

While small enough to drive around island in about an hour, Koh Samui is still big enough that you can always find beautiful hidden spots no matter how long you stay. Despite its continuing development, large parts of the island remain covered with coconut groves, rice paddies and forest.

Chaweng boasts the longest and most popular beach on Samui. Accommodation can be found along its entire length, and while there is now a distinct leaning towards more upmarket hotels and resorts you can still find a few budget bungalows left over from the islands days as a backpacker haven. Chaweng is also home to a lot of the islands nightlife as well as featuring the highest concentration of shops and restaurants. The popularity of Chaweng means that residential developments tend to be found off the main strip on the outskirts of the town or in the hills overlooking the beach where land costs are lower.

Hotel Koh Samui

Lamai is Samui's second-largest and some say most beautiful beach. The water is excellent for swimming and the southern end is studded with elegant boulders. Although slightly less developed than Chaweng, Lamai still has its share of nightlife, restaurants and shops as well as more mid range accommodation options. Similar to Chaweng, the restricted area available on and around the beach means that the majority of housing can be found in the surrounding hills.

Where To Stay On Koh Samui During Your Holiday

Maenam on the North coast still offers a wide selection of budget accommodation however there are now a number of top end luxury resorts located there, with a number of restaurants and shops springing up on the main road to cater to visitors. Maenam is also home to many of the new villa developments on the island, and was one of the first areas to feature such development.

Hotel Koh Samui

Big Buddha is located on the North coast close to the airport, and Samui's most famous landmark - the Big Buddha itself. Like Maenam it still offers a number of more relaxed and relatively low priced resorts. There are also a surprising number of excellent dining options in the area, and it is also home to the weekly Secret garden music festival.

Bophut is one of Samui's recently developed villages and as such has managed to retain some of its traditional Thai charm and values yet still has a slight Mediterranean feel. The limited traffic along this stretch of road gives the feeling of a more relaxed 'walking street', something which is increasingly difficult to find on Samui. Many of the converted shop-houses offer romantic beachside dining.

หาดป่าตอง TSUNAMI Patong Beach Phuket Thailand some real footage of killer wave14:13 - 2 years ago From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Patong Beach (Thai ) is a beach on Phuket's west coast, and to the town adjoining it. It is the main tourist resort in Phuket. It also contains an important centre of Phuket's nightlife and is the centre of cheap shopping on the island. The beach became popular with western tourists, especially Europeans, in the late 1980s. Numerous large hotels and chain hotels are located in Patong. Patong Beach is more famous for its nightlife than the 2-kilometer beach that runs the entire length of Patong Towns western side. Nightlife is centered on two main areas Bangla Road and Paradise Complex, with Bangla Road being predominantly straight and Paradise Complex being predominantly gay. Much mixing of the two scenes occurs due to Phuket Islands tolerant nature, with Kathoey present on Bangla Road. On December 26, 2004, Patong Beach along with many other areas along the western coast of Phuket and Thailand were struck by a tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. The wave caused a great deal of destruction to the waterfront of the beach and immediately inland, and many people were killed there. Patong was one of the worst affected areas of Phuket, although the destruction was not nearly as bad as nearby in Khao Lak. Winter Sports in Barcelona - Ice Skating

Barcelona is more than just a summer-time city. There is much that is fun, educational or cultural (or all 3!) open and accessible throughout the winter months. Definitely falling into the fun category is the Barça Ice Rink de Barcelona. This most seasonable of attractions has seen a presence in the city for over 30 years, and is host to several competitive ice sporting clubs, as well as being open to the general public. The Barça Ice Rink is next to the Camp Nou Stadium.

In Barcelona, you will find also the Skating Club de Barcelona tucked away on the Calle Roger de Flor, in the wide avenues of Eixample. This is only a mile or so from the Old City, and the Plaça de Catalunya. Monday and Tuesdays are half-days, but the ice rink is open for general sessions for the rest of the week, as late as 9pm (excepting the daily siesta closing from 1.30pm until 5pm).

Hotel Koh Samui

The general sessions are the most popular with families and the ice rink quickly becomes a bobbing, slipping and sliding arena for Barcelonans of all ages. Music, lights and snazzy screens enliven the experience - as if that were really needed! But as well as general skating fun, the ice rink is also host to some serious sporting activity. The local Curling Team practices, and competes here and they have the distinction of being Spanish Group B Champions. It is well worth checking out the competition schedules to see when the next Curling Event is; the ice rink is sure to be packed and the atmosphere electric.

Winter Sports in Barcelona - Ice Skating

There is also a Hockey School for children, which involves tuition and trial games. For this class, all of the equipment is supplied. The ice rink also puts on some excellent Ice Skating tuition, that would be ideal for the budding Torvill and Deans. And if you do enrol one of your kids into these sessions, you get free skate hire, and free entry to the General Sessions, thrown in as well.

Hotel Koh Samui

On a more practical note, it's worth pointing out that the Skating Club de Barcelona doesn't allow those under 3 to skate. And you must bring gloves, and, for the youngsters under 12, some form of helmet; health and safety is alive and well even in Catalonia!

So if your stay in relative warmth of the Catalan winter has you nostalgic for some wintry wonder, a trip down to a Skating Club in Barcelona may be in order, for you and your kids.

To find suitable apartments in Barcelona near the Camp Nou in Les Corts for your holidays in Barcelona and to enjoy ice skating, visit http://www.barcelonapoint.com/en/apartments/13/Les-Corts.html and find accommodation in Barcelona.

Yucatan Vacation - Holiday Rental in a Mayan Village

What would it be like to rent a holiday cottage in a Mayan village? Have you ever imagined living close to a Mayan community in the Yucatan Peninsular, Mexico?

The Mayan people still live in a very traditional way, speaking Mayan as their first language, and many women wear typical embroidered dresses every day, not just for special occasions.

Hotel Koh Samui

Each village has its main square or plaza, and a church, and the homes are grouped together in walled family compounds. The plaza is the social hub of the village - every evening people gather and enjoy the balmy warm night air. Life is very safe - the kids roam freely with everyone looking out for them.

Yucatan Vacation - Holiday Rental in a Mayan Village

A typical Mayan compound has several oval-shaped cottages with thatched roofs made from palm leaves, surrounded by a low dry-stone wall. Families live together in several generations, from grandparents to great-grandchildren. Each house has many functions - during the day, it serves as a place for the family to live, work together to prepare meals, make handicrafts, and at night the hammocks are shaken out, and sleeping space is ready.

Hotel Koh Samui

Cooking is done in the cooking house, and generally carried out by women on open fires. In the morning the fire is lighted, and burns all day while various meals are prepared. Traditionally, Mayans have meals which they always eat on certain days, eg. Frijol con Puerco (pork and beans) is always served on Mondays.

In the compound there are always hens and turkeys scratching about, and maybe also a couple of pigs, or even a cow. Dogs are an important part of the Mayan culture. They guard the compound, and help hunt for deer and rabbit.

Corn or maize is a fundamental part of their diet, and every home-owner in the village has the right to a piece of common land where they can grow their corn.

The Mayan language is an oral tradition, and has developed over the years according to its location. In the Yucatan, the Mayan spoken in one village is slightly different to that of a nearby village. In the very heart of the Yucatan, where few foreigners venture, Mayan is their only language, with only a few words of Spanish. However in more accessible villages, both Mayan and Spanish are spoken. The older generation may not speak Spanish, but most people of working age are bilingual.

To stay for a while in a Mayan community is a fascinating experience. The villagers are extremely hospitable, and proudly show their homes and their traditions to empathetic visitors. Even if your Spanish is not up to much more than 'buenos dias', where there is goodwill there is communication. A far cry from the luxury hotels of Cancun, and the hectic life of a colonial city like Merida, a Mayan village is a different world - quiet and peaceful, with clean, unpolluted air, and a slow pace of life.

To experience a different world, a different culture, a fascinating insight into contemporary Mayan life, why not rent a holiday cottage in a village in the Yucatan.

The ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand - eBook report

One of Mike Fook's latest helpful guides is, "The ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand" which appears to be exactly that.

Mike tones down his usual hard-hitting style with this more than 100 page data packed guide for wannabe teachers of English in the "Land of Smiles" as Thailand is often known.

Thailand Hotel

Recent changes have made teaching in Thailand a rather exclusive occupation. Gone are the days of backpackers from Europe or North America popping over to Thailand for a years stay and teaching part-time as they wish.

The ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand - eBook report

A estimate of regulations have been put into place by Thai Ministry of schooling authorities which have increased the hoops one needs to jump straight through in order to teach legally in Thailand. Police background checks from the hopeful teachers home country as well as within Thailand are essential in most cases.

Thailand Hotel

There is now a Thailand Teaching License that must be awarded for those wishing to teach in Thailand's government school system. This teaching license requires a Thai culture policy be attended by all teaching applicants and has set the expat teaching community reeling. Many teachers have since left the country for what they saw as greener grass in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam to name a few Asian countries that benefitted from the English teachers' exodus from Thailand.

Mike covers all things would-be teachers need to know starting with tasks teachers need to complete before leaving their home country. Most foreign English teachers do not stay to teach long-term because it just is not what they expected. Mike states that he hopes to give those considering teaching in Thailand a very realistic view of what the job and cultural caress is like, thereby cutting down on the estimate of habitancy that waste a year of their lives.

Mike relates that there seems to be a obvious type of someone that is cut out for the task.

  • Teachers that go actually with the 'flow' are going to do best in the Thai school law because often the schedule changes at a moment's notice.
  • Those that match themselves with an area, a climate, a cultural tempo that fits them are more likely to survive and thrive as a teacher in Thailand - or as a long-term expat.
  • Adventurists that come to teach for the pure caress of living in and teaching in an additional one culture across the globe tend to do well. Their recompense is everyday that they are teaching something new to Thai children and adults, not when the the school day ends at 4:30 p.m.

Before bright to Thailand five years ago, I spent thirty-dollars or so on four paperback books that were supposed to get ready me for teaching in Thailand. None of these books ready me much for the reality of living, eating, breathing, and getting along socially in a country so different from my own home in America. Mike's book is extremely total and I can extremely propose "The ultimate Guide to Teaching English in Thailand" as the premiere reserved supply ready on the subject.

Also, from well-tended gardens in the town of St. George to the wilder outskirts, lush vegetation everywhere you look will make you feel that you really have been transported to another world; one that is peaceful, fragrant, and utterly inviting.

Hotel Koh Samui

Choosing to stay in a vacation home rather than a hotel will add to your trip in many ways. Not only will you relish the pleasure of knowing that your accommodations are rich with personality and unique qualities, but they are simply more convenient as well. Imagine being within sight of the beach yet blessed with plenty of breathing room and no close neighbors. The noises of Bermuda revelers will never disturb you, yet a quick walk will take you to the town square for a round of shopping, dining, and dancing the night away. It might just seem too good to be true, but don’t worry, you’ll come to recognize this as being Bermuda’s way.

Bermuda Vacation Rentals

Water sports like skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, and fishing will all keep you busy and tire you out in that relaxing, pleasant way. Taking a nap in a shady spot after a day of exertion will be the perfect prelude to a night of eating seafood, barbeque, or fine cuisine and then watching the sun go down with a cocktail in hand. Dinner cruises are also a fun choice, as is touring the nightclubs for a sampling of open-mic performances. Music jams and poetry slams will get your creative juices flowing, perhaps inspiring you to further appreciate your exotic surroundings. Day and night, tempting diversions will tickle at your feet and knock at your door, so be prepared to stay constantly yet not overwhelmingly engaged with the goings on of the island.

Hotel Koh Samui

From the vantage point of your vacation rental, all will be tranquil and easy. Though internet access and a television will probably be on hand, feel free to ignore the events of the world for a few days. Focus on your own beating heart instead, or the wonderful intricacies of the person you’ve brought along with you. Meditate, read a book, practice yoga, or simply zone out from time to time; your vacation rental will not only allow these things to happen, it will encourage them to.

Something about having your own space and being in a privileged spot like Bermuda make mundane things a bit more enticing. Instead of dreading the sound of a washer and dryer, you’ll be happy to have one on hand just in case you spill wine on your shirt. Cooking is usually drudgery for you, but a few basic appliances and a nearby grocery store make creating a quick meal or breakfast in bed more than appetizing. Perhaps it’s the breezes or the ample sunshine, but in Bermuda, you’ll see things in a gentler, kinder light.

If these descriptions and images are going down pretty easy, it may be your turn to experience Bermuda in all its remarkable glory. The urge to take a vacation strikes us all periodically, so the next time it happens to you, make sure to consider this charming destination. Check out the Bermuda Vacation Rentals [http://www.a1vacations.com/Bermuda.htm] that are available during your window of opportunity, and get ready to view the world from a whole new perspective.

Earlier protesters in Thailand's capital Bangkok have said they'll accept a government offer for peace talks without conditions. At least 37 people have died in clashes over the past six days. Jamaica Villas Vs All-Inclusive Resorts - Which is Right For Your Vacation?

Sometimes it can be difficult deciding if you would like to stay at an all-inclusive resort or a vacation home for your next trip to Jamaica. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

If you aren't familiar with all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica they are usually large resorts and major chains such as Sandals, Beaches, Couples and Super Clubs, just to name a few. All-inclusive resorts usually include all your meals, drinks (including local alcoholic beverages), water sports and airport transfers. Keep in mind that quite a few all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica are "couples" only, meaning no kids under the age of 18 (or 16 depending on the resort) is allowed. The most popular all-inclusive for families is the Beaches Resort.

Hotel Koh Samui

A villa (or vacation home/rental) in Jamaica is a privately owned home that you rent out for the duration of your stay for you and your guests only. Most of the villas in Jamaica come with a full staff (usually a cook, housekeeper and gardener) who will pamper you and cater to your every need. They will take care of the cooking (serving all your meals and drinks), house cleaning, your laundry and more. The price of your stay in a villa includes the accommodations, the full staff, and all Jamaican Government Consumption taxes (8.25%).

Jamaica Villas Vs All-Inclusive Resorts - Which is Right For Your Vacation?

Some things to consider when deciding whether your next Jamaica vacation will be in a villa or all-inclusive resort:

Hotel Koh Samui

Is privacy a requirement?

o Villas are private homes rented exclusively to you and your group.
o Resorts can have as many as a few thousand people staying there at once, especially during peak season (December - April).

Do you want your entire party to stay in one room? Or have individual rooms?

o You can rent a 4 bedroom villa for a family of 5 and all have your own room.
o For a family of 5 at a resort you have 1 room with 2 beds and probably a roll-a-way. Or you need to pay more to get 1 or 2 bedroom suites or even separate rooms.

Do you want the privacy of having your own pool and beach?

o Most villas come with a pool and there are quite a few that are beachfront.
o Most resorts are beachfront and have pools they just aren't private.

Do you want the price of your vacation to include meals and drinks?

o Villas don't usually include meals and drinks in the total price paid up front. A few may include an all-inclusive option.
o All-inclusive resorts in Jamaica are just that; inclusive of the room, meals and drinks and some water activities.

Do you have children who take naps?

o With a villa children can sleep in their room (I suggest using a monitor to hear them if you are outside or not close by) and the adults can be in the pool relaxing and still enjoying the day.
o At a resort the adults are usually restricted to staying in the room with the children while they nap.

Do you have special dietary needs or just prefer certain types of foods?

o When you are staying at a villa you sit down and talk one-on-one with the cook and you let them know exactly what types of food you like/dislike or can/cannot have. You can have the cook then do the shopping for you, or if you like, you can do the shopping yourself.
o At an all-inclusive resort a lot of your meals are buffet style. This makes it a lot harder to eat exactly what you want. Your choices become very limited. This becomes a little easier when you have your meals at a sit down restaurant, and may be able to order items from the menu as you like them.

It really comes down to a personal preference. Villas are more private and with the ability to work closely with the cook, they can be more accommodating for meals. All-inclusive resorts are a one stop shop of sorts and can be nice for the more active person. Whichever you choose Jamaica is an island that is full of life and happiness and your vacation will be truly special.
